When I was younger I used to imagine that by the time I'd turn 28 I would have my whole life figured out. I imagined my self still living in El Paso Texas, definitely already married two kids and maybe one more on the way. a small house, nothing grand. Working from home (Yes, I know how lame to have envisioned myself as a simple stay at home mom, lol but hey it was what it was)
Yeah, that was a long time ago, now things aren't as clear, first of all I could never see myself back in El Paso. There is no way I want the stay at home mom job. If you'd told me back then that I'd be where I am today I would have freaked out! but you know I don't think I've ever felt more free!
Despite that nothing in my life went according to plan...Especailly this year:
First of all my Abuelito got sick, I almost lost him. And yeah I know many have lost their grandparents, but for me it was extra scary cause my abuelito is more of dad to me than a normal grandpa. Ever since my parents divorced my abuelito has been my rock, he is always there for me, so almost losing him was the worst thing. Thank God he let me keep him for a while longer. yes he lost his leg, and my entire family's life has changed our schedules to now include, therapies, and other new jobs that I won't go in to detail today.
But it hasn't all been bad, I got to travel this year, for two amazing completely selfish months! I ate things I never thought to try, even Haggis, I met the most amazingly fun and nice people (From Australia, New Zeland and South Africa and Newfoundland and USA !!!). I saw things that will make my life bright and inspired. And I proved mostly to myself that I can do anything ! I am brave and I am not afraid of any bullshit that the world throws at me.
And yes I now have a debt so large that I might need to sell a kidney or something to pay it and yes I am currently unemployed but no one can take the experiences away and the memories that I so treasure.
So here in no particular order the 28 things I've learned so far:
1 - Friends come in all sizes, types and kinds: From the one that has known you your whole life, and has stood with you in the moments of laughter like watching Awkward while eating fettuccine and drinking bottles of moscato and those moments when you go crazy and decide to angrily yell at her in the middle of the very crowded strip of las Vegas, The friends who you haven't seen since high school but that still hold a dear place in your heart cause they helped form the person you are today from the one that accepted to be your last minute chambelan, the one you would call just to ask what you should wear to the party, the one who kept your secrets even when one secret was about you having a mayor crush on her cousin. The friends that you could spend hours in a car just talking, The new friends the ones share the new believes like growing together in prayer and in faith. The ones who sat by your side as you cried your eyes out in the chapel after feeling the world fall over you. The friends who forced you to meet your first boyfriend even thou it didn't quite work out they still got you out of your comfort zone, the friends who helped you hold your hair while puking after a hard day of demon hunting. The new one that you met on a trip that shared laughs and adventure with you from almost losing a cruise in Greece or buying purses in Desigual, to eating pizza and calamari, those who are now across the other side of the world but that stay connected thru memories (and maybe facebook lol) The friends you have everything in common, and the one you have absolutely nothing in common. The ones who text all day and the ones who Facebook comment, the ones who call and the ones who only occasionally say hi. All these friends treasure them because in some way they helped you grow, and maybe just maybe you helped them to.
2 - People are always going to disappoint you if you expect something from them. Just learn to embrace the faults. the sooner you realize they don't want to hurt you its just the way they are the sooner you can get over it
3 - Strangers are just friends you haven't met. Except for those that aren't (Yeah, not very insightful I know but hell, its true beware the lunatics but stay open for those who are worth it)
4 - A book becomes a part of you so beware what you read.
5 - Always do the things that scare you, I think those are the most fun.
6 - Life is ever changing the sooner you stop complaining and just go with the flow the faster it gets better
7- Pay attention to others advise, most of the time they speak from experience. Especially teachers, they want to show you because they actually care. Hell some teachers can even become your friends!
8 - Travel! Nothing in the world can compare! And the world is HUGE so start traveling as soon as possible. Trust me nothing is better than coming home after learnign seeing touching sniffing all the other things out there!
9 - Brothers (or sisters) are the absolute best! no one else knows the the things you've been thru as well as they have. no one else will love you despite the dark twisted things you think or do. No one else will stand by your side even if you are absolutely wrong
10 - Movies are a great escape of reality but beware they can suck you in so deep you might lose track of what really matters
11 - Coca-cola and Dr. Pepper are evil! First they make you addicted and then they make you fat, and give you gas and pimples and a false sensation of satisfaction. (Still one every other week is a guilty pleasure worth enjoying)
12 - Be honest. If you can't with the world at least be honest with yourself, you won't learn who you are any other way.
13 - The world is more fun if you let yourself believe in the impossible. (Mermaids, pixies, Rudolf, Bigfoot...)
14 - The best way to enjoy a movie is going to the premier! With friends.
15 - Be your own hero, no one else is going to rescue you. You aren't a Disney princess.Damsels in distress are so before Frozen
16- Be with someone you love, don't be with someone cause you feel you need them. Find someone who loves you, values you, respects you... if he doesn't don't be scared to be alone you can do it. Its better to be alone than trapped in a relationship that is dragging you down, suffocating you and manipulating you.
17 - Dance like no one is watching, sing like no one can hear! Do what makes you happy who cares what others think! Don't be afraid to be called weird! embrace it! its who you are! normal is so boring!
18 - Stand for what you believe in. No cause is to small if you believe in it!
19 - You are never to old to wear a Halloween costume!
20 - Never stop planning future adventures but in the process don't forget to treasure the present (This one is easier said than done, but I am working on it!)
21 - Don't obsess over the thing you can't have, or the person who won't love you back. or over the fact that they discontinued your favorite tv series. In time things that mattered wont matter at all. Better learn the difference between what is a passing little craving, a momentary lapse in judgemnt and what and who will really matter in the long run!
22 - Parents aren't perfect but they love you with all they are capable of loving you. Show them you are capable of more.
23 - Your mom is the most important person in your life. This one sounds a little nerdy, or dorkish but you know what? its true. They might bug us with little things but in the end no friend will be as brutally honest as a mom can be. No person will love you despite the fact that you litterally ripped thru her vagina! Yelled at her all thru puberty and adolescence, broke her heart a million times. despite all of this mom's love you more each day. no matter how many fucked up things you say or do. So yeah I am proud to say my mommy is the most important person in my life
24 - Tequila is the best drink ever! you can pretty much drink it with anything!
25 - Rejection and betrayal hurt like being punched in the neck and then hanged by the hair on a flag pole for everyone to see. But you know what? who cares the moment passes. it helped you grow and next time you wont be as dumb.
26 - Everything is better in a musical.
27 - Show your appreciation, your love, your admiration. We all love hearing kind good meaningful words. so don't be selfish if you feel them for someone Share them. They might need them more than you think.
28 - Most important of all Trust God, Believe in God, Love God. Cause with Him all things are possible, every problem becomes small. Cause if God is by your side what can scare you? And yes, bad things will still happen to you, and yes your faith will tremble. but if you remain strong, trust me life gets brighter!
So hope you enjoy these stupid random things I've learned in my 28 years of life.
If not... I don't care... lol

Love it Miriam!!! You are so right! Pablo and I send hugs! - Sandi
Valor!! y Fe!!
